OCs: Christmas Preparations

The four main characters of my original story getting together to celebrate Christmas ^^


I know, I know I haven't shared much on these guys yet - my bad, I guess. But I wanted to sketch up a Christmassy pic of them, just for fun; and I liked the end result too much not to upload.

And it was fun ^^ Usually when I draw them, it feels like I'm just... I dunno, doing it for the purposes of pressing the story ahead. To pause in that and just draw them... hanging out, completely apart from any events of the story, was a super-fun exercise. It also got me thinking about each of them in relation to seasonal festivities and what they'd be used to from this time of year. So, forgive me a small ramble on the subject XD


Nicole, far left.
Age: 14
Hair colour: dark brown
Personality in brief: Fairly passive and doesn't like being the centre of attention; but nonetheless, runs her mouth a lot, especially when she's worried about something.

She prefers what she would think of as the simpler pleasures of Christmas. Not that she doesn't like the rest of the celebrations and everything; but her most favourite part of the season is just the simple fun of decorating for it. Dressing the tree, putting up paper chains (as pictured), that sort of thing. Her brother once joked that she'd be content not to get a single present on the day as long as she'd been the one to decorate for it beforehand; and that's not all that far from the truth.

Age: 14
Hair colour: dirty-blonde
Personality in brief: That one guy who can usually make people laugh without really meaning to by saying things that just sound mildly odd. Not that he minds; Gavin's a laid-back type of guy, and cheering people up is the one thing he's particularly passionate about, regardless of whether or not it's at his expense.

As far as Gavin's concerned, the best part of Christmas is FLAMBOYANT LIGHTS, and lots of them. As depicted, he's never been that gifted at untangling them; but every Christmas, he will cover practically everything in lights, and no-one can keep him from doing so. The fact that he has the run of his parent's house to himself most of the time is the only reason he faces very little opposition for this.

Age: 12
Hair colour: black
Personality in brief: A rather insecure girl who hides this beneath a bossy and dominating shell that very few have ever managed to see beneath.

Over the years, Rachel has formed an attachment to the bad sweaters as her favourite part of Christmas. I can't seem to remember the full extent of the reason for this preference right now; but she always makes sure to get everyone wearing them. Hence the fact that she's brought along enough for all four of them, whether the others appreciate the gesture or not.

Age: 13
Hair colour: distinct ginger
Personality in brief: A quick-tempered girl who, after growing up with only a generally negligent father for company, has developed a bitterness towards the world in general and those with functional families in particular. Also known as my main character.

Lauren, unlike the others, hasn't got a favourite part of Christmas; she's never really celebrated it fully. Her father would make sure she had some presents on the day, because he felt he ought to; but for the most part, he spent the day in his own way and left Lauren to her own devices. Spending it with her best friend (Rachel) and the others is a completely new experience that she's trying to adjust to.

The fact that she's not used to Christmas traditions may have been part of the reason Rachel got her into one of the sweaters so easily XP



Not that this scene would ever... happen. I drew them all as prior to the story's events, when a couple of them would be unlikely to even be in the same room together peacefully - but I figured it didn't actually have to be story canon ^^



All these characters belong to me. First of all, any similarity to other persons - real or imagined, living or dead - is 100% accidental and coincidental. Secondly, NO USING THEM WITHOUT MY PERMISSION, PLEASE AND THANK-YOU. These guys are, like, super-special to me and I won't tolerate them being stolen.

...it took longer than I expected to write that all out, whoops. There went most of my evening... XD;;;
